Soccer

So-so game today. I was benched for the first half (we had 15-16 players, and I missed practice this week due to charley horses in both legs). We were down 2-0 when I came on, with no score in the second half. We shut them down well but couldn't find the net.

No clear goal chances -- came up for a few corners; ran under one that I should've held back on and contained. Right knee is a little stiff from I don't know what. Scrape on left knee. Ho hum.

Book and Movie

I finished a reread of Greene's The Quiet American, one of my favorites, and perhaps now the book I have read the most number of times.

Rented the movie version again too, which could've been a decent adaptation except that the director had an axe to grind about American imperialism, and so he decided that was what the story was about. Which it isn't. Annoying.

Soccer

Great game on Sunday. A pretty even match -- we led 1-0 for much of the game. They equalized with 10 minutes to play, but then we scored again with 5 minutes left and held on in the face of five attackers. I seem to remember using my head an awful lot. But no real scoring chances for me.

No hip pain 't'all. I got charley-horsed in a bad way in like the third minute on my right thigh. Then I got a matching one on my left in the second half. The first one is much worse though, and my right thigh muscle has been contracted rock hard for a day and a half now.

Soccer

I wanted a 40th-birthday goal today bad. But, lots of people on the roster this year, so I had to ride the pine for the first half (well, actually, I had to play linesman). But after I went in, we went up 3-0, so the coach moved me up front, where I was... ineffective. My best chance was when I was playing defense and went up for a corner, which I headed over the bar.

Fun game though. No injuries.

Soccer

Asked to play one half today, was required for the whole game. We lost 4 or 5 to nil against a team that we're better than, so that sucked. After only four or five hours of sleep, too (watched the England/Portugal game last night), and in a persistent cold drizzle. Yuck.

But, still played the whole game, and injury free. Alternated between embarassing whiffs at the ball and decent plays. Made one run up, and was fouled.

Book

Finished "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night", which was perhaps the easiest book to read I've ever encountered, and pretty good overall.
