Books

Let's see, it's been a while... Finished "Programming the Universe" by Seth Lloyd, which was one of the best science popularizations I've read in a while. Reread "Yours, Isaac Asimov" which I seem to pull out at least once a year; it's like candy.

And I read "Behind Big Blue", about the building of the chess computer that beat Kasparov, which was enlightening -- the computer that beat him was more of a brute force, John Henry-style achievement than a programming and strategizing one. And it sounded really kludgey to boot. Kasparov came off as really unlikeable and ungracious, not surprisingly.

Movie

Saw "The Visitor", which was outstanding.
